One of the most powerful ways to teach world history and culture is through stories and mythology. This culminating project will have students combine multiple learning styles as they write and record scripts, make puppets, sets, props, and then perform their puppet shows. The scripts will all be based on the mythology of the world cultures we have studied this year. The shows will be performed for the younger grades, involving hundreds of kids in the school. The materials will be used this year and for many years to come. Most importantly, this project will allow each and every student to be involved, including those who are quarantined, learning virtually, as well as those in the classroom. Even if they are home, students can contribute to the scripts, send in puppets they've made, and still feel like they are part of the class team. The most important item I am needing is a microphone to record the scripts safely. The microphone I've chosen is high quality, so students will still be understood even through their masks. I have asked for a variety of craft materials to make the puppets and sets. After many months of isolation, students are anxious for socialization and feel like they are a part of a team. This allows each student to shine in their own areas of strength, increasing confidence and self-esteem as they contribute a small part to something bigger. As they make connections between themselves, the past, and the world around them, they will become better citizens and humans.
