My co-teacher and I plan to use the ukuleles (and supporting materials) to immediately add a weekly music lesson into our existing schedules this school year. It is our goal to provide exposure to this form of music as a positive coping skill and outlet both emotionally and creatively to students who have been placed in an emotionally disturbed unit or special class of special education primarily due to a pattern of emotional regulation concerns in the general education setting. If provided, this outlet could positively impact them in both the short-term during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as in the long-term future when we are all hopefully past this difficult time in history, in both the school setting as well as in the home.
