The best learning experience any student can have is one that is hands on. My students spent a year and a half looking though a laptop screen due to distance learning and are now eager to get hands on learning. STEM activities, short for science, technology, engineering, and math is a perfect blend of all four areas. Building propeller cars would be a great introduction for my students to STEM and perhaps inspire them in a future career in that field. For this activity, students will build a battery powered propeller car that move in a straight line. The goal will be to design a propeller car that will move in a straight line a fast as possible through trial and error. Students will write down data and make adjustments to their design as needed and must show an improvement in speed/time on a graph based on their modifications. This activity will provide learning in the areas of motion, force, energy and energy transfer, measurement, data analysis, and various mathematic skills.
