I have found that this group of students is low in fluency in reading. They did online school at the end of 2nd grade and missed out on some of the skills to help them become independent readers. I believe that an updated library with books of high interest would encourage students to read more independently. I asked ALL the students to share with me their favorite books and book series so that I could include titles that would be of interest to all. Independent Reading is a necessary skill for students to have to be successful in upper grades especially when they get into junior high. I also included a science activity that would be engaging to the students and help them with the science core.
