During instruction time and group work, students feel very successful when they can solve a math problem on their whiteboard and hold it up for all to see. It's very motivating to see them get "into it" when they have something to show. I have also noticed that it's easy for a shoulder partner to give assistance when they both have a whiteboard and they can work out the problem together. In my opinion, math is best learned in a cooperative environment. Whiteboards are just one way to help make this happen. The students love sharing and helping one another.
