We learn best when we are engaged! These literacy activities and games will be used during small group instruction. Many kindergarteners each year begin their school experience drastically behind the rest of their classmates. This creates a very large gap, which can be difficult to close. The literacy activities which include beginning sounds, rhyming and phoneme segmentation are perfect when teaching critical phonemic awareness skills during small group instruction. Nonreaders, beginning readers and proficient readers can all benefit from these activites to strengthen these important reading skills. Learning while working together and sharing, are important skills worked on during center time each day. The puzzles are a perfect hands on addition to our center time. Puzzles are a great way to encourage teamwork as well as encourage positive communication skills. The alphabet cards can be a resource sent home for students to work on while they are away for a few days or weeks. The cards can be returned when the student arrives back to school. The cards can also be used with parent helpers, 4th grade reading buddies as well as during small group instruction.
