I teach an array of students K-9th grade, each with very specific needs. These materials will help them to build the foundational skills needed for success with life skills and within the general education curriculum. The small toys and Pokemon cards may not seem necessary to anyone outside of special education, however, these items can be essential as incentives for behavior management for our specific learners. This year has been the most difficult for them and these prizes can really go a long way to motivate them to try harder academically as well as behaviorally. The social-emotional Legos are crucial for hands on learning for our life skills groups, as we are continually teaching about emotions and how we can better manage them. COVID has done a lot to limit our students' progression socially, emotionally and academically. They have lost a lot of foundational skills in math needed to progress and understand number sense and basic operations. These manipulatives and games I've selected will be crucial to giving our students a tangible way to understand those common core objectives they weren't able to fully grasp the last year and a half online. They will also support more progression socially and emotionally as they interact and take turns while learning key concepts. Lastly, the headphones are very necessary to support all of our learners, as we use technology to teach and assess, both inside the classroom and within their homes, if necessary. Thank you in advance for your time and support. We are very excited for this opportunity!
