I have seen first hand the social and emotional impact of the pandemic on my middle school students. Depression and anxiety are a daily struggle for a large portion of students. I see heads on desks and a tired glaze in their eyes like I have never seen before. In my CTE class we are required to cover state standards like typing and basic mastery of windows software, which can feel boring and tedious for some. This project will bring excitement, creativity, and imagination into my class and give the struggling students something to look forward to, possibly a reason to pull themselves out of bed. It will even allow those who are home sick to continue to design their projects from a home computer and send their files to be printed. What I love the most is it will allow students to push themselves to the edge of their computer skills and have fun while learning. It will give them a physical 3D object that represents their hard work and digital literacy.
