My project is to get a classroom set of iPads for my 7th and 8th-grade students, and I am doing this project along with my Science PLC team to serve all of our 7th and 8th-grade students. As we are a small rural school, it can be difficult to obtain actual science equipment, especially with our booming student population, so we take advantage of technology in the classroom by doing virtual labs, simulations, and experiments where possible. But with technology like iPads, we have the ability to replicate many science experiments and experiences in a virtual environment, providing the same level of high-quality educational opportunities for our students as other, larger schools. The iPads for us are the great equalizer: all our students, no matter where they’re from, what their background is, or what their current situation is, have equity by being able to use the iPads to access and learn in these virtual science labs. Because of this, our students feel empowered to demonstrate their competency of science concepts and actively seek opportunities for an agency with voice and choice to explore science concepts and ideas that otherwise they would not have access to with traditional labs. Please help us get a set of iPads for the classroom so all of our students can have access to these wonderful learning opportunities.
