I am an English 11 teacher in a small rural high school. I am also the Yearbook Advisor, and my biggest hope for this project is the ability for my yearbook staff to better cover and capture the NOW of this pandemic. Yearbook is a class meant for remembering and celebrating the students-- whether that be through their successes (no mask mandate at school!) or their frustrations (more students moving to online education; fewer people allowed in to observe extracurricular activities; lack of attendance because students are just overall feeling depressed and introverted).
Regardless, in 20 years I want students to be able to look back at this school year (and school years to come) and to simply REMEMBER-- the good, the bad, the everyday routine that came with surviving and thriving in a pandemic. And that's when a Yearbook comes into play. We take the pictures. While we currently have two 10+ year old cameras that were used by the previous yearbook advisor, the quality of these devices has resulted in extremely blurry and un-usable pictures. My yearbook staff members have started using their iPhones for pictures at school and at after-school activities and events. This camera would significantly help us, the JHS Yearbook Staff, capture and personalize the unique circumstances of our current situation, and would also give my students the opportunity to better gain photography and journalism techniques. Thanks so much for your consideration!
