My students are naturally curious about the world, and they are increasing curious about how to prepare for the ACT. These resources will help address both of these concerns. There is magic in a brand new book. This project aims to put specific books in the hands of my students to fill specific needs they have right now. With the ACT Prep books, students will be able to practice the skills they need to maximize their score on this college admission exam. Having access to the books in my classroom will give opportunities for individual preparation and allow me to include intensive preparation during our class time together. Students naturally feel the pinch of educational adjustments due to Covid-19. Many express to me a need for more review because they don't feel like their skills have been as finely tuned as they would have been without the interruptions to the past two school years. Having access to ACT Prep books will help close the gap they feel and hopefully give them the confidence they need for test day. Additionally, my students want to learn about their world. The nonfiction books requested will allow them to participate in literature circles, conversing and collaborating about issues and ideas that they find interesting. Students need the social interactions that participating in a literature circle can provide. Making these book groups about nonfiction gives students a broader view of the world. Besides, there is nothing better than cracking open a brand new book for the very first time.
