This year, half of our first graders have been scoring drastically below grade level. The pandemic made it difficult for many of them to fully attend Kindergarten. They have missed out on so much learning, it’s sad. These beginning years are extra important because kids are to learn all the foundational skills. Statistics even show that if students are still struggling to read by the end of first grade, it’s very possible they will continue down that path in their future. My goal, and desire, is to see my students improve their reading skills. I have created reading groups to help my students focus on specific reading skills. These added reading kits would help my students learn some foundational reading skills.
