In my classroom, I serve students who are kind, loving, energetic, and intelligent. I work in a low-income area and even though I am provided with the items I need to succeed in teaching my kiddos, some of the tools to keep them engaged are hard to come by. We utilize the STAR, Handwriting Without Tears, and the Touch Math curriculum, which are geared towards helping special education students learn. Students with autism learn best when lessons are repeated and reiterated. We use a lot of laminate, Velcro, and other tools that allow us to recycle lessons that our kiddos can use in the classroom and at home. Since my students are so young, they need engaging and creative lessons to encourage them to participate in academic lessons. Many of my students have sensory needs and learn best when they have access to tactile objects, music, or stimulating academic resources. When my students have access to multiple modalities of education, they grow closer to achieving their goals.
