Working on sewing projects can help students to develop confidence in themselves and their ability to learn new skills. I have been lucky to see the surprise in a student's eyes as they realize that they can sew, and that they can sew well. The confidence that comes with a new skill is just what many students need in order to overcome other fears and obstacles in their life. That is one reason why we sew in our class. Students need reliable and up-to-date sewing supplies to ensure that they can complete their projects without worrying that the equipment will break. Most of the requested materials will be used by students during the sewing portion of our class. Shears will be used by students to cut out their projects, while irons and pins will be used throughout the sewing process to complete necessary steps.
