Everyday in our 9th grade Child Development class, literacy will be exemplified. In the past, I have had numerous students state that they have never had a book read to them. This is heartbreaking to think that students, of any age, are not involved in reading or being read to at their own homes. Everyday in class, a book will be read to students whether or not it relates to the curriculum so that students can understand and experience the joy of reading. I want students to look forward to not only hands-on learning but visual learning of what adventures are out there while reading a simple children's book. My curriculum is set up so that students will have children's book that will introduce a topic that we will be discussing and what better way to introduce a unit on pregnancy than with a children's book about being a big brother or big sister. Books can teach us so much, especially through the eyes of child.
