Communication goals are meant to elicit understanding of language concepts from basic to complex. Many of our younger students love to learn about nouns, verbs, and concepts using vibrant visuals and tactile objects to provide engaging stimuli. All students are unique and have preferences towards those magical materials that grasp their attention and facilitate engagement allowing them to unlock communication. LEGO therapy is an evidence based therapy approach for students with ASD. This project assigns a group of students with jobs including engineers, suppliers, and builders. The project that is created in the mind of the engineer cannot be brought to life unless each child fulfills their roll by communicating, giving instructions, and following directions. The LEGO people, boxes, cards, and mini objects are meant to elicit nouns, pronouns, basic concepts, prepositions (next to, under, behind, next to), expressive and receptive language. This incorporates socializing with peers to help all students unlock the power of communication. This project is meant to be portable and go between school sites to benefit a number of unique and special students that require extra support to learn and master concepts that will help them advocate for themselves and build relationships through their lifetime!
