The students in my classroom have diverse backgrounds and diverse needs. The books included in this project will help them develop their social-emotional learning and develop empathy, compassion, and connection with their fellow classmates. The covid-19 crisis has effected the social-emotional development of many learners. In using books like Wonder, Lola Levine, Dog Days, and When Stars are Scattered I hope to give my students backgrounds representation and build empathy as we read them together in whole class reads. Their diverse needs are addressed in the lap desks and cushions to allow students to have choice and ownership in their classroom. Addressing their learning needs, letting students express their personality and freedom to ask for what they need.
