Even though COVID-19 has been difficult for teachers and students, it has created many positive changes to the world of education. The use of technology has become a very vital part of a student's education, now more than ever. Students have always learned best when they are given activities that are fun and engaging. When students are interested in their own learning, they are more likely to retain the information that is being taught.
The students that we work with today are digital learners, and they learn best if they are given a variety of technology tools to support their learning. Ozobots are a great way to incorporate technology in a fun and creative way, and they can be used in many content areas. Students can use the robots to create paths on story maps with Language Arts assignments, or to support geography skills as students create paths across a map. The robots can be used as part of presentations as students share their knowledge and skills as they create paths to Math problems that they must solve. They can be used explain different patterns they might see in the sky to support our Science standards. There are so many possibilities on how to use these little robots to support the 4th grade curriculum.
By using Ozobots, my 4th grade students will be given the power to be in charge of their own learning as they explore the many options available to them. They will also be building important critical thinking thinking skills as they communicate and collaborate together to solve problems. By introducing these robots into my classroom, it is my hope that I am creating a more engaging learning experience for my students, while at the same time developing a passion within my students to keep learning.
