This is my first year teaching. To say that COVID-19 has been a barrier to effective instruction is an understatement. As cases continue to rise, the likelihood that we will move to online learning is high. I feel unprepared in several different ways to help these students succeed, but these supplies will help me be more prepared
Each of the items on the list would better help me help my students. The learning materials and books will give students plenty of learning opportunities when they are at home without direct instruction from me. The scanner will allow me to easily upload copies of those activities onto their Canvas page. The keyboard and mouse will also aid me in creating online materials as those are the tools I will use. Lastly, the presenter and podium will allow me to make more engaging online presentations for students to view at home during soft closures. Mimicking a more realistic classroom environment, with me at the front of the room giving direct instruction will increase engagement.
All of these supplies will help me get set up for online learning. Many other educators already have these types of materials collected over the years. As a first-year teacher, all of these items will increase student engagement during the pandemic and for the rest of my career.
