Many of my students have really struggled the past couple of years with isolation, trauma, and emotional challenges. It is important for me to provide activities that support their emotional health and their learning. Reading literature that reflects their emotional needs and supports the SEL lessons and goals we have in place will help my students heal and grow. The award-winning books in my project deal specifically with interpersonal relationships, courage, friendship, acceptance, kindness, and empathy -- issues that we work on every day. The classroom book sets will allow us to go beyond the "read aloud" and instead read them together as a class, in small groups, at home, and more. Art is another valuable emotional outlet for students. The art supplies requested will be used for cross-curricular projects, and will help students express their individuality and their emotions.
