These calculators will be used by students in class on assignments and tests. Many students still struggle with multiplication facts, adding and subtracting integers, fractions, decimals and other basic math skills they are expected to be fluent in by 8th grade. Allowing students to use a calculator removes anxiety and wasted time over the details. This gives them the time, energy, and confidence to focus on more important theories and strategizing. The deeper into math they get, the more important this will be. I want to empower my students, and hopefully get them excited about a lifetime of doing mathematics. Allowing students to use calculators helps kids better enjoy math.
