To get our team back on track after a disappointing Covid year of canceled competitions and performances, we have been working hard to perfect new, more advanced routines. But imagine 25 teenagers learning lifts, dips, and tricks for the first time! Yep--it's a big chaotic and always a little scary watching them wobble or lose hold of their partners. Right now I'm borrowing gym mats from a neighbor, and dragging them back and forth to the school in the back of my car. It would be so nice to have a permanent set at the school so we can safely practice new dance moves and get these kids back into shape after a sedentary Covid lull. Also, a very important aspect of social and emotional learning for the team is getting out into the community to perform and compete together--taking risks, dealing with success and challenge, making memories, and creating friendships. Right now our costumes have been sitting in bins for a year unused. If we want to re-engage with the ballroom world we need to invest in rolling clothes racks and hangers in order to transport everything to our upcoming events! If you've ever tried to carry 150 heavy costumes you'll know why racks would be so helpful!
