No one anticipated the impact COVID-19 would have on the lives and learning of students and teachers. Every day I witness students struggling to meet the demands of their course loads, course loads made more difficult by learning loss during remote learning years. Many students were online, learning asynchronously, or faced with the uncertainty of learning while in and out of quarantine. They missed or misunderstood key concepts and skills that they desperately need for advancement. An iPad Air and Apple Pencil will upgrade the technology in my classroom and enable me to provide a more interactive and enriching environment for my students to learn. The technology will essentially do the job of several expensive pieces of equipment including a smart board, document camera, and white board. They will seamlessly integrate with the equipment already in use in my classroom. With the iPad and pencil, I can annotate lecture notes directly on the board, enabling me to visually emphasize key concepts and accelerate learning. Students will be more engaged with the material and I will be able to spend more time on content than transitioning between demonstrating on the white board and using the projector for powerpoints. Additionally, this will continue to aid students who are quarantined or if we have to pivot to online learning. The iPad Air enables users to easily screen record lectures and slideshows including annotations made during lecture. This will streamline my workday and any work I need to complete at home. The ability to record a more engaging lecture will help prevent future learning loss for students by enabling them to watch recorded lectures. It will also help struggling students by giving them the ability to rewatch recorded lectures.
