Learning about and developing a deeper level of appreciation for our nation's history is profoundly significant to the civic education of all students. A common problem, however, is that many students struggle with the traditional approaches to learning about history. I would, therefore, like to introduce the book, Journey To Topaz, into my 7th grade Utah Studies curriculum. I believe this book will become a valuable enrichment resource in my classroom and will change the way my students "see" history. I have found that when my students read the personal accounts of others, it reaches their emotions in a very unique manner and leaves lasting impressions.
