My biggest challenge with gifted students is to help them become thinkers and problem solvers. The products that I'm asking for will help with that goal. One of our standards in 6th grade is Astronomy. I love the idea of exploring space. Students are inspired by the idea that the world holds a universe of possibilities. The posters, science kits, and books will help students learn about the universe with all its immensity and awe. The Dr. Seuss books may seem like a strange request for 6th graders. I conduct a study of the social statement that Dr. Seuss makes through his books. Students take these beginning readers, find the deeper meaning, and retitle the works. It is the springboard for great discussion and deep thinking. I am amazed at how deeply 6th graders think and feel whenever we study this unit.
