The last couple of years, my kindergartners have had a completely different experience than those in previous years. Because of COVID-19, the learning landscape has changed. We have to maintain proper social distancing as much as possible. Manipulative objects are difficult to use because they must be sanitized between users. The turmoil in the world has also increased students’ feelings of anxiety and their emotional well being has suffered. These mental health challenges often lead students to distraction and a lack of focus. These factors make active seating all the more necessary for my students. Children need to move! Seating that allows them to wobble, rock, and bounce, helps oxygen flow to their brains, which keeps young minds more engaged. In this way, my students will learn more easily, and have a little more fun while doing it!
