The materials I'm requesting are to help students make up for hands-on learning time that was lost due to the effects of COVID. Our students lost time in the lab, which is obvious with some of the material they fail to grasp as it can only be learned through individualized, hands-on experiences. Lab work is essential in order to learn science, and it has been greatly diminished the last 2 years due to dismissals, hybrid learning, and social distancing. The products I have selected will help students make up for time lost due to COVID. For example, the molecular modeling kits-This is an activity our students often do in 7th and 8th grade science. However many of our students missed this opportunity because they were not in a classroom due to COVID. The ability to visualize molecules is essential to a have good foundation in chemistry. I have also added safety materials such as safety goggles and lab coats, so we can have enough to fully sanitize them between class sections and allow them to dry. Right now we do not have the materials to do so. Since there are uncertainties in what school will look like for the near future, I have also selected a couple of books with demos that can be recorded as videos to show students and at home chemistry experiments to allow students to experiment in their own homes. There are also micro-well plates that will give more students the opportunity to work in smaller groups for social distancing purposes. Overall, these supplies will allow us better to accommodate the needs that are unique to the new COVID classroom while allowing students to get hands-on experience.
