We are in need of a CLEAN class size rug. We use our rug everyday as a place to gather and learn from each other. We start the year by building our classroom community as we play games at the rug and learn about each other. As the year continues, we spend time each day at the rug learning new concepts such as spelling patterns, hearing and manipulating sounds in words, and how to write sentences. We learn how to turn to our partner and talk about how to solve problems. We sing songs, read books, share written stories, and so much more. Our classroom rug is where we all come together and learn. I also use the rug to help with classroom management and to increase engagement in learning. There is something about pointing out a row of students that are all participating that encourages the others around them to join in so as to be recognized also.
