My struggling third grade readers and writers need engaging tools to help them make up the learning loss during the Covid-19 transition to on-line learning. When these students were first graders, they were forced into a shift to online and at-home learning. First grade is the year you set the groundwork for a proficient reader. Many of these students have failed to make up the learning that was lost and are still struggling readers. By third grade, students should be reading to learn, having already learned to read. By providing students grade-level and interesting reading material, they will be encouraged to reach for higher levels. Projects will be completed about historical people. Students can read a biography, write about them, and publish their writing using technology. Having a computer mouse for each student will help maintain a healthy classroom since students will not share. Allowing them to print and display their work will encourage the writing process and give the students a sense of pride in their hard work.
