The Ripple Tanks will allow students to develop and use models to describe the structure of waves and allow them to experience first hand how waves are reflected, absorbed, or transmitted through the water in the tank. They can make changes to the frequency of the waves and look for patterns in wave amplitude and wave energy. The students will be able to replace virtual labs with real time, hands-on experimentation where they are able to manipulate variables and answer questions about wave interactions. The students will use prisms and other materials provided with the ripple tanks to experience refraction, interference, and reflection at their lab stations.
