Providing my students with individual book sets will allow them to mark and then keep the books as we read together to learn specific reading strategies to support their growth in reading and what better books to do that with for middle school students than with Jason Reynolds, a current author who really 'gets' this age group. Many of my students have struggled for years with attention issues which have caused problems with reading achievement. Flexible seating has been proven to provide the stimulus to support attention and sensory issues. I would like to support their needs by providing this additional option for students to choose from. Finally, I've asked for a large timer that I can display in many ways and in many places in my classroom to help students stay on task and to support appropriate pacing for our direct instruction lessons. By donating to our project you will be helping provide the support my students need to be successful in this remedial reading class and meet their personal goals for improving reading achievement.
