I chose books that can be used in our nonfiction unit, as well as books in Spanish that can be checked out and read. I have found that my native Spanish speakers often do much better when they have the option to read a book in Spanish. This grant will help me get those books into their hands and increase their literacy at home. The nonfiction books will be used for students to read independently at home, as well as in nonfiction units. Any can be taken home to increase their reading portfolios and gain a stronger reading identity. Covid has made it difficult to have enough copies of books for each student if they are quarantined or online for other reasons, but these books will allow me options to send home with kids that they can use to engage in class materials.
