I love math. I love math. I LOVE math. Unfortunately, not all students feel this way about math, but I want them to! Math is so exciting to me: finding a strategy, engaging in the process, and getting a solution. I plan to use these books to learn ways and get ideas to engage more of my students in math.
Although my favorite part about math is the math, other students get fully engaged in the math only when they are interested in the story or the application; I need to learn more about what engages students in math. I don't feel like I have enough experience outside the classroom to see where students really will use this math in real life. I want to study these books to help me realize when and how students can actually use math, not just on the test. I already own plenty of books about classroom management, and general teaching strategies. I have already gone to plenty of professional development to help improve my general teaching skills, but now I want to improve my specific math lessons. I love learning from books because I can refer back to them any time I want to, as opposed to going to a training, then I can only refer back to the notes that I took.
This will directly impact my students because the things I learn will help me improve my math lessons and engage students more in math, therefore producing more students who have STEM skills. These books come with a lot of ideas that I can use to engage my students in math. Thank you for this opportunity!
