I am a first year teacher teaching woodshop. This year I'll have about 200 students in my shop working on projects and fine-tuning their craftmanship skills. To say that consumables, like glue and nails, and other necessary shop equipment run out and wear down, is an understatement. The items I have requested are sure to help my shop students learn and progress at a better standard. Students in my beginning woods classes build chests that they are able to take home at the conclusion of the trimester. By acquiring the wood clamps, students will have an easier time clamping the 90 degree corners on their boxes without the risk of the wood shifting under the pressure from regular bar clamps. Currently, we have two miter saws in our shop. One of them is a sliding miter, which allows for a longer cut on wider boards. This particular miter saw's sliding mechanism does not function properly, and it kicks back powerfully when students try to use it. Because this has caused an unsafe working condition for students, we have had to revert to using one single miter saw. With nearly 200 students using the same saw as frequently as they do, this contributes to a lot of wear and tear on the blades, and the saw itself. The miter saw is a useful, necessary piece of equipment in a shop environment and a new one would allow us the proper working conditions in order to complete student projects.
