As my students progress from one letter pattern to the next, they will use the decodable readers to practice fluency. For instance after a lesson on how to read the ai letter pattern the students will turn to their decodable book and experience the letter pattern in text in the book "Just Like Old Times" set A. After practicing the book until they feel proficient with the ai letter pattern, they will read the B set book, "Brother? Sister?" while I listen with a new text to confirm that they are ready for the next letter pattern. Students will experience improved fluency in reading and math by experiential learning with decodables, manipulatives, and games. In Math the students will use a Rekenrek Math manipulative to visualize the quantities in a math problem and how they change as they employ operations such as addition subtraction division and multiplication. They will then continue their experience through interactive games and activities.
