The Chinese dictionaries will help facilitate independent learning in Chinese -- students will be able to refer to them whenever they need to. The microscopes are to help students understand that there is a microscopic wold that we can't normally see with our eyes. This concepts is essential for two fifth-grade science units -- the Ecosystem unit which involves understanding decomposers like bacteria and fungi, and the Properties of Matter unit which stress that matter is made of particles too small for the eyes to see. Along with the earth model and the solar system model, students will gain a more solid grasp on otherwise abstract topics. The Kiwico kits are to make possible an engineering experience that students lack during the lockdown/social distancing periods. Students will be able to create, observe, analyze, and adjust their own machines and apply various Engineering ideas. The indoor garden station is to help students better understand plants' lives and their roles as producers in an ecosystem, which is an essential topic in 5th grade science.
