This class book set will act as a new and improved part of our 5th grade gifted and talented reading program. My classroom is place full of avid readers with a desire to feed their love for learning and to inspire others in the process of it all. This book was chosen with my students in mind. It focuses in on two main characters that persevere and tirelessly push towards attaining their goals. It is an inspirational story that offers a wonderful way to learn about history, world culture, and our environmental impact. With this new class book added to our reading curriculum, students will enhance their knowledge of historical fiction and the world around us. It will also offer them an opportunity to relate to the characters and provide them with a new outlook on how to preserve through their own personal struggles. I have seen how their interest in new genres of text, especially historical fiction, have grown throughout the school year. I hope that this additional option will help us grow as a class even more!
