I have found that when we went to online learning, many students struggled to understand specific science and math concepts. As we have reentered the classroom in person, I have found the more hands-on science demonstrations and projects the students can do, the better. There's something about seeing how a scientific principal works in front of your eyes, that helps students "get it" and also makes them happy to be at school. I hope that with these manipulatives, students will love learning and science again! When we study ecosystems, I want to grow plans in the classroom and create terrariums. When we study astronomy, I want to model the solar system for them. When we study oceanography, I want to bring out a 3-D model of the ocean floor they can touch instead of just showing them more online videos. I want them to have hands-on STEM building activities for them to do when their teams complete their tasks and want to bring the fun back into the classroom, as these help enhance their social skills, that some of them desperately need to improve on, after the craziness and instability of the pandemic.
