My students are in desperate need of a safe learning environment and a place to learn how to gain empathy. The books that I have chosen to buy are rooted in the history of the Holocaust, and will help the students gain empathy and understanding of important historical events. I also have almost a third of my students who have intellectual and mental challenges. These students, and others, would benefit greatly from having new and interesting texts presented to them. By showing them how history greatly impacts their lives, I can assist them in helping them grow, learn, and become the people they want to be.
