Learning though experience is most impactful! Learning by exploration and observation helps my students understand and retain their new knowledge. STEM activities are best experienced by DOING. We use plastic cups and lids to see the water cycle in action (Weather and Climate Patterns, SEEd Standard). We use tin foil to design and build boats to hold a load (Force Affects Motion, SEEd Standard). We learn about principles of air displacement when we use coffee filters and pipe cleaners to design and build parachutes (Force Affects Motion, SEEd Standard). We use tape and paper clips to problem solve and make our designs even better. Plastic cups also make great terrariums to explore life cycles of plants (Effects of Traits on Survival, SEEd Standard).
