A crucial component of my project is a subscription to Storyworks magazine, both digital and print. This is a resource I have come to love over my years of teaching and use it almost every day! It is also a very useful tool to use with remote learning because of the digital activities Scholastic has created. As far as literacy goes, I have noticed more struggle with reading amongst many students this year, likely because of the inconsistency of their first-grade year (2020). For that reason, I requested some tools to help build phonics skills. The goal is to build basic phonics skills that improve their decoding skills which in turn improves their fluency and accuracy. I also ordered a lot of other books to foster reading in the classroom.
In addition to the literacy tools, I requested some math tools to encourage the growth of more foundational skills for multiplication the students learn in third grade. The rest of my requests were for science projects and essential classroom supplies that will be used in the classroom and for things that can potentially be sent home. A lot of classroom funding has had to be directed toward things affected by pandemic-related school/learning issues!
