A large part of producing an artwork is understanding the affects of presenting. "Presenting" includes creating finishing touches like a frame or mat, and includes presenting artwork to the public to observe how it impacts its viewers.
This will help my students reach outside themselves and seek to understand their art from an outside perspective in order to display it in a way that matches their art. This is a great constructive critique tool to have.
This aligns perfectly with the Utah Media Art standards for 7th and 8th graders. Standard 7–8.E.P.5 requires students to "Evaluate various presentation formats in order to fulfill various tasks and defined processes in the presentation and/or distribution of media artworks." The display cases and differing stands will provide us with the chance for students to uniquely design shows based on each of our projects and arrange art in a purposeful way. By having an actual display location, I will be able to more fully explore this vital aspect of visual art with my students, and they will get to share what they have learned with classmates and visitors to the school. This project will also give the students at home the chance to prepare their work for presenting, thanks to the digital picture frame that will allow pictures of student work to be presented alongside the work displayed at the school.
I plan to demonstrate the effects of presentation based on a famous and well-known work of art by Andy Warhol. By representing their art with a famous work of art, I aim to show them the different types of art available to them and to give them confidence in their artistic decisions once we start presenting their own work.
