My students have a vast range of sensory needs and behavioral needs. It is important that the sensory needs of the students are met. There is a wide range of sensory tools that can be used to help meet those needs, one of the more unique tools is the use of a light table. Lights can be the source of calm for some students and pairing that with the use of manipulatives is a powerful tool. This light table will make the perfect addition to the calm down corner we have in our classroom. When students begin to feel unregulated they are able to utilize any tool they feel their bodies need in our calm down corner to help regulate their bodies and emotions. With the guidance of myself and the staff in my classroom, students are taught, guided, and modeled how to appropriately utilize each tool in the calm down area. Along with this, they are able to explore which tool meets their needs the best for them. The students, myself, and the staff in my classroom are excited for the opportunity to add a light table to one of the available tools to choose from.
