I want to teach my students that reading and writing can be fun. I am trying to get a reading nook in my classroom for the whole class where students can enjoy class books together. While we are reading I want us to write about the book and color code our writing. For example, we will write about the subject and highlight the main points in purple and the setting in green, etc. Then when we are done I can turn the lights off and turn on the black light that I have and the highlighted parts will stick out, showing them this is the most important part. This will hopefully get kids excited to read and show them how to pick out the important ideas from a text.
