Making Learning Memorable with the Makerspace would allow students an innovative experience to allow hands-on learning through projects and project-based learning. I am asking for consumable resources to allow students access to numerous materials that will help them with this experience. As a 6th grade social studies teacher, my goal has been to make the learning experience align with 21st-century learning. To provide students the opportunity to problem-solve, critical think, and collaborate, I felt the direction I wanted to take was projects and project-based learning. That inspired the idea of creating a Makerspace for not only my social studies students but all 6th grade students across the different content areas. With doing projects and project-based learning, students will need an environment that encourages 21st-century learning. For the Makerspace, I am wanting to acquire consumable resources such as construction paper, modeling clay and Play-Doh, and watercolor materials. These resources will allow students in my classroom a space for resources to apply 21st learning aspects. Also, it will provide all 6th grade content teachers access and a space to encourage projects and project-based learning across the different contents. My goal with the Makerspace and my classroom is to provide resources and a space for students to apply 21st-century skills throughout the different content areas taught in 6th grade. By acquiring these materials for the 6th grade Makerspace, my fellow 6th grade teachers and I will be able to provide students the opportunity to learn while applying 21st-century learning skills.
