As the school counselor, I am especially concerned with the social-emotional and mental well-being of my students. Students are more stressed, anxious and depressed than they were before the pandemic hit. I am looking for ways to help my students get out of their fight or flight, survival brain as a result of these stressful times, and back into their learning brain, where they can connect with creativity and a love of learning that make school an exciting and engaging place to be. Making my office more cozy is one way I can help students feel comfortable coming to see me if they need to work through challenges they are facing. Therefore, I am requesting funding to purchase more seating and especially bean bag chairs for the counseling office. I have seen other counseling offices and spoken to other counselors who have found this to be a useful addition to their office. With students coming in with stress headaches and stomach aches, who just need some time to pull themselves together, I can see that having a bean bag chair to relax in might help them to refocus and get back to class feeling more relaxed and refreshed sooner than sitting in the hard back chairs I currently have in my office. Thank you for considering my request!
