All students have the potential to become a regular reader and enjoy literature. There is a book out there for any student. My goal in creating the best classroom library in my state, is to insure that all my students will have a book of their choice, to enhance their learning, and hopefully lead them to appreciate reading more and more. They will be able to check out books I have chosen, to read at home or in class. I wanted to become a teacher of literature after reading "All Quiet On The Western Front." It was the book that caught me in the 9th grade. The main character, Paul Baumer, was someone I connected with. The reasons for the connections I made are few, but they are real. I tell my students about that book and what it has done to my life to this very day. I want my room to be a place where students can find a book or books "that will catch them" too! All my classes, except Creative Writing, read a book a month. After they read their book of choice, they do a 5 minute video review of them "selling" the book to their peers. I have a YouTube class channel, where students upload their videos when finished. Students can watch other students book reviews, and then possibly make a choice based on the review of their peers. This project will allow me to share my love of literature with my students. These books I have chosen I have chosen carefully, and cover a large range of interests. I want to thank those donors who can make this possible, and assure them that this project will help students to gain a love for turning pages more, as opposed to swiping on their phones.
