I want my students to develop a deep love for reading. I have a student-choice classroom where students are given 10 minutes at the beginning of class to read a book of their choice. We read, talk, and write about the books we are reading. Reading will help students overcome the learning loss they've experienced due to Covid. It's the number one activity that drives student success. In addition, a love of reading will improve their lives outside of the classroom. As they read, students learn to overcome challenges in their lives. They have less stress and develop more empathy for others. Nothing beats a good book!
