Due to COVID, we have not been able to attend field trips or have presenters come to our school. In the past, we had organizations who brought animals and artifacts to our school for students to learn about and explore (bones, feathers, furs, and live snakes). We also don't have the funding to attend museums, botanical gardens or aquariums. I want to still give my students hands-on learning with life science. I have chosen an ant farm and a butterfly garden for students to learn about life cycles and how bugs or animals work together to live. I've chosen tools like magnifying glasses and specimen views to view plants and bugs up close. Lastly, I've added extension activities where students can show what they learned by building a model through clay and building puzzles with animals and bugs that can spark conversations about intriguing facts they've learned.
