I am a new teacher. I was thrown into a classroom with very old resources shoved haphazardly into closets. We had a lot of behavioral issues to overcome. Time that I wish I could have devoted to building my classroom materials was occupied by classroom evacuations, behavioral observations, and safety trainings. The experience I gleaned in my first five months of teaching was invaluable; however, I will feel like I have let my students down if I don't get my act together quickly. Over the holiday break, I asked my family to gift me supplies for my classroom. We are off to a good start, but we still have a long way to go. Current curriculum and engaging unit activities will enable me to teach to my students' individual needs. I will use materials from Teachers Pay Teachers to create different learning centers throughout the classroom. This will encourage one on one and small group learning, two teaching styles that are imperative to learning in special education. I want to offer the best to my students. I love them as if they were my own children. No matter what, I will create a constructive classroom for my students; however, this grant will open opportunities that I previously did not think possible.
